DrTiong Vunjia Senior LecturerUniversiti Malaya

Dr. Eva Tiong Vunjia is a Senior Lecturer at the Tropical Infectious Diseases Research & Education Centre (TIDREC) and the Department of Biomedical Science, Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Malaya. Her research focuses on virus–host interactions and enhancing outbreak preparedness through pathogen surveillance and laboratory capacity building. An International Federation of Biosafety Associations (IFBA)-certified Biorisk Management Professional, Dr. Tiong oversees the Biosafety Level 3 biocontainment facility at TIDREC and has extensive experience working with high-risk pathogens, including Nipah virus, MERS-CoV and SARS-CoV-2. Her work integrates scientific research, biocontainment laboratory operations and public health preparedness, contributing to strengthening national capacity for responding to emerging and re-emerging infectious disease threats.
