Dr. Heo earned his Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Sciences (Hons.) and a Master’s in Medical Science (Parasitology) from the National University of Malaysia, followed by a Ph.D. in Entomology from Texas A&M University in 2016 (PhD advisor: Jeff Tomberlin). He currently serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of Microbiology and Parasitology at the Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Teknologi MARA, Malaysia. As of May 2025, Dr. Heo has published over 100 peer-reviewed journal articles, filed 5 patents, and co-described 2 new fly species of Muscidae. He has successfully graduated 3 PhD students and 3 Master’s students as their main advisor, supervised 2 postdoctoral researchers, and handled 25 cases in forensic entomology in Malaysia. In addition, he received the John Henry Comstock Graduate Student Award from the Entomological Society of America in 2017 and has been a Board-Certified Entomologist (BCE) since 2016.
