Following a move to Thailand, he completed a Master Degree in Clinical Tropical Medicine at Mahidol University and started working at the Mahidol Oxford Tropical Medicine Research Unit (MORU) in 2020 as head of the Chiang Rai Clinical Research Unit in Northern Thailand.Carlo’s research centres on scrub typhus, tropical rickettsioses, and acute febrile illness, focusing on rural northern Thailand’s and its vulnerable populations. Research focuses on treatment efficacy, disease severity, diagnostics, and prevention. CCRU promotes ethical research, conducts community engagement activities, and runs the Chiang Rai Community Advisory Board.
